Bold as a Lion: Preaching Without Words
Share
Some days, we have the energy to show up boldly, ready to share Jesus with whoever crosses our path. But other days? Life feels heavy, we’re tired, and even opening our mouths to encourage someone feels like too much.
If you’ve ever been in that season, you’re not alone.
The good news is that God’s Word reminds us: boldness doesn’t always come through a megaphone. Sometimes, the way we live, the peace we carry, and even the clothes we wear speak louder than any sermon we could preach.
The Righteous Are Bold as a Lion
Proverbs 28:1 says: “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.”
Lions don’t apologize for existing. They don’t shrink back in fear. They stand tall, strong, and confident in who they are. In Christ, we are called to carry that same quiet strength — not because of who we are, but because of who He is in us. Boldness doesn’t always look like shouting from the rooftops. Sometimes it’s steady faith. Sometimes it’s kindness when the world expects anger. Sometimes it’s wearing your testimony across your chest in a way that sparks a conversation.
Preaching Without Words
St. Francis of Assisi is often quoted as saying: “Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.”
You preach Jesus every time you extend forgiveness when it’s hard. You preach Jesus when you choose joy over bitterness. You preach Jesus when you simply live with a peace that the world can’t explain.
Even in seasons where you don’t have the strength for long conversations or public ministry, your life still speaks. Your shirt, your smile, your patience, your presence — they are all sermons pointing back to Him.
When Evangelism Feels Hard
There will be seasons when active evangelism feels overwhelming. When you’re tired, stretched thin, or wrestling with your own quiet battles. In those moments, remember this: God never asked you to do it all in your own strength.
2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Even in your weakness, His power is shining through. And sometimes the greatest witness you can give is simply choosing to walk with Him in faithfulness — one small step at a time.
A Gentle Reminder
Being bold as a lion doesn’t mean you’re always loud. It means you’re unshaken in your identity in Christ. You carry His presence into every room you enter — and that is a sermon in itself.
So today, whether you speak or stay silent, whether you’re overflowing with energy or barely scraping by, remember this: your life is already preaching Jesus.
