“We love because He first loved us.”
1 John 4:19
Love can start to feel like something we have to prove. We try to be enough. Kind enough. Patient enough. Good enough. Over time, that pressure can turn love into effort instead of freedom.
This verse brings us back to the right starting point. We love because God loved us first.
Before we showed up. Before we tried harder. Before we understood everything. God’s love came first.
That changes everything. Love is not something we generate on our own. It is something we receive, then reflect. When we forget this, love becomes exhausting. When we remember it, love becomes lighter.
Being loved first means you do not have to earn your place with God. You do not have to keep up appearances. You do not have to carry the weight of being perfect.
From that place of security, love flows more naturally. Toward others. Toward yourself. Toward the life you are living right now.
If you feel stretched or worn thin, return to this truth. You are not loved because of what you give. You give because you are already loved.
Prayer: God, help me rest in the truth that I am loved by You first. Let that love shape the way I live and care for others. Amen.
